The ISABC Newcomers Program (formerly the Welcome Wagon Program) aims to provide teachers new to the ISABC as well as those new to BC with networking and collaboration opportunities. The program is structured around monthly online sessions which will be planned to accommodate as many to attend as possible. Previous years’ themes have included Diversity in Education, Indigenous ways of knowing, as well as how to handle difficult parents and planning with differentiation in mind.
Importantly, each participant will be teamed up with a mentor in another ISABC school to provide support and networking connections throughout the year. In the event that in-person sessions are possible, there will be some opportunities for in-person Pro-D such as an initial session in the fall, a cross-school visit/observation day at another ISABC school in the winter, and a final session in the spring.
The program will complement in-school programming and meet the specific needs of new educators. There will also be tailored sessions for those who are new to BC, but may have taught in other provinces or countries before. Most importantly it provides a space for fellow teachers to engage participants in the association and have them connect and collaborate with other ISABC community members. We are looking forward to connecting with you all, and if you have any questions please feel free to get in touch with Cathy Clegg or Tim Stevens
