The Principal of the Junior School is a senior leadership position responsible for the strategic development and comprehensive day-to-day operation of the Grades 1 – 5 division, which serves over 315 students and leads a faculty of approximately 51, supported by two Vice-Principals. This role demands a commitment to pedagogical and instructional leadership, driving continuous improvement within the framework of the school’s mission and the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) philosophy. The language of work will be English.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of School, the Principal is the instructional leader of the division, overseeing faculty professional growth, ensuring high standards of learning through classroom observation and performance data assessment, and providing guidance on curriculum implementation and reporting policies. Key duties include effective budget allocation, timetable coordination, managing all divisional communications, and supervising the comprehensive co-curricular, athletic, and outdoor education programs. The Principal will collaborate extensively across the Educational Leadership team to ensure positive student transitions (Early Years/Middle School), implement strategic initiatives, and maintain the school’s commitment to a vibrant, healthy school culture and high standards of learning.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an educational leader to shape the academic and holistic development of our Junior School students (315+ students, 51 faculty). This pivotal role is responsible for the strategic development and operational oversight of the division, ensuring the ongoing excellence of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

- Instructional Excellence: Lead and model superior pedagogical practice, championing instructional improvement and continuous faculty development across all subject areas.
- Strategic & Operational Stewardship: Oversee divisional planning, budget management, scheduling, and comprehensive program supervision (academic, co-curricular, arts, outdoor education).
- Holistic Student Development: Ensure the academic, socio-emotional, and physical well-being of all students is met in collaboration with our support teams.
- Culture & Communication: Foster a positive, productive school culture, facilitate student engagement, and ensure clear, transparent communication with parents and the wider school community.

Required Qualifications
- Be a Canadian resident and legally entitled to work in Canada, or be prepared, with the school’s support, to go through the process of obtaining an appropriate visa
- Be certified to teach in British Columbia, or meet all of the requirements to obtain certification from the BC Ministry of Education
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Education
- A Master’s in Education is preferred
- 8+ years of progressive experience in an Educational Leadership role
- 10+ years of teaching experience
- Experience with the International Baccalaureate PYP

Compensation & Benefits
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$150,000 – CAD$180,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience and education. In addition, there is an opportunity to earn a goal-related leadership bonus of $12,500.00. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience in accordance with BC labour laws and company policies.
