Pearson College UWC is recruiting for an outstanding IBDP French Teacher to cover a one-year  PD leave

Reporting to:      Deputy Head of College – Academics

Position Summary:

Pearson College UWC is seeking a teacher with a strong academic and practical background in French who is able to teach the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme  (IBDP) French B (both at HL and SL), and French ab initio.

French B is a language acquisition course designed for students with previous experience in French and is organized into themes. The four core themes are required: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organization and sharing the planet. Students develop skills of literary and textual analysis, and the ability to present their ideas effectively. The candidate should be willing to teach a range of French topics and levels.

French ab initio is a language acquisition course designed for students with no experience in or very limited exposure to French.  In the French ab initio course, students develop the ability to communicate in French through the study of language, themes and texts. In doing so, they also develop conceptual understandings of how language works. Communication is evidenced through receptive, productive and interactive skills across a range of contexts and purposes that are appropriate to the level of the course.

Responsibilities:

·         Model and encourage the Pearson College UWC mission and values, promoting peace, international understanding, and sustainable development through education.

·         Create a welcoming, respectful environment – inside and outside the classroom – in which students can thrive physically, socially, emotionally, and academically, where students feel safe to take risks and learn from their experiences.

·         Stay informed about best practices in teaching and learning, particularly within the IB framework.

·         Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with teaching and safety standards.

·         Contribute to the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) program as a CAS leader.

Education, Skills & Experience:

·         A master’s degree in the subject being taught is preferred; however, we will consider candidates holding a bachelor’s degree who have an exemplary background in teaching.

·         Proven experience teaching motivated students aged 16–19, with a strong passion and commitment to supporting their holistic development.

·         Familiarity with the IBDP curriculum or comparable advanced academic programs for high school students.

·         Demonstrated leadership in CAS activities, particularly in experiential programs such as sailing, waterfront activities, or outdoor education.  Expertise and certification in areas such as sailing, paddling, hiking, or other outdoor experiential activities are particularly valued.

·         International teaching experience or the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students from around the world, including those from challenging backgrounds.

·         Willingness to engage actively in community life, including boarding school living and extracurricular activities, and an interest in living on campus are advantages.

·         Ability to advise small student groups, offering personal and academic support.

·         Applicants are encouraged to highlight their qualifications and experience teaching other IBDP courses.
