It all began on the corner of Granville and 28th where seven fearless women welcomed 17 students to the very first York House School in 1932. Nearly a century later, thousands of students have found their unique path and purpose at YHS. Our School has since grown into one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. About this Role

Reporting to the Principal of the Junior School, the Grades 4-7 STEAM Coordinator works closely with the Principal, the Education Technology Coordinator, and the Kindergarten-Grade 3 STEAM Coordinator to support excellence and consistency across the Junior School in integrated teaching and learning. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in instructional and assessment practices, a passion for teaching and a strong understanding of how girls learn.

 

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid British Columbia Teaching Certificate, or eligibility to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent teaching certification.
  • Previous experience teaching Art, Science, and/or Mathematics.
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent is considered a strong asset.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Grades 4–7 teachers to integrate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) and ADST into the core curriculum.
  • Attend Grades 4-7 grade level co-planning meetings to plan and design lessons for students that integrate STEAM into other subjects.
  • Support and co-teach with Grades 4-7 teachers in classrooms to roll out and facilitate STEAM-related lessons.
  • Provide direct mentorship to faculty to ensure excellence and consistency in integrated teaching practices.
  • Work closely with the Kindergarten-Grade 3 STEAM Coordinator and EdTech Coordinator to offer comprehensive support to Junior School teachers and students.
  • Participate in supervising co-curricular activities and fulfill standard supervision duties.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of the BC Curriculum and current research regarding how girls learn.
  • Proven experience with Project-Based Learning (PBL), inquiry based learning, and the Reggio Emilia Approach.
  • Hands-on experience with STEAM/ADST tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, and shop tools (e.g., ChompSaw).
  • Familiarity with Maker Education, Design Thinking, and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to adapt instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of individual learners.
  • Exemplary communication, time-management, and interpersonal skills; a collaborative and flexible “team player” mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology purposefully to transform the learning experience.
