About this Role 

The General Maintenance & Bus Driver is responsible for the upkeep and safety of the facility and grounds, as well as the safe transportation of students. This position requires the motivation to retain or currently possess a valid Class 4 UR driver’s license, experience operating a school bus, and the ability to work effectively with children in a school environment.

 

General Maintenance Responsibilities

  • General Maintenance of grounds and facilities – lighting, grounds-keeping, electrical and plumbing repairs, small fixes, Cleaning etc
  • Respond immediately in the event of an emergency to facility needs/issues regarding safety/security, including fire alarm systems, water, or gas systems to protect building occupants and property
  • Provide quality and timely service in responding to all requests, whether verbal, written, phone calls and helpdesk tickets for maintaining buildings and grounds
  • Notify Facilities Manager of all unusual events, circumstances, or other safety or quality control issues
  • Represent the school in a professional and positive manner at all times.
  • Maintain and enhance the school’s image when interacting with staff, students, parents, and vendors
  • Perform set-up and take down of furniture, etc., for events
  • Be aware of the quality of the facilities including looking for broken or misplaced items, light organization and clean up as seen and required.
  • Maintain or repair tools and equipment
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established safety standards
  • Safely use equipment such as power tools, pressure washers
  • Perform light custodial duties as circumstances required
  • Complete other tasks as assigned
     

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, productive and motivated to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner with quality workmanship
  • Collaborative team member with effective communication skills
    Knowledge of, and experience with, machines and tools, including their design, uses, and application
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds
  • Knowledge of basic methods and techniques of plumbing and electrical
  • Demonstrated safety record and knowledge of safe procedures
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, etc.) and Google Gmail, calendar, documents, etc.
  • Intermediate computer skills for CMMS-Limble (maintenance requests); reviewing, logging and closing work orders
  • WHMIS certified
  • Able to work a variable schedule as needed.
  • Patient and a keen listener to stakeholder problems in order to ascertain a solution
  • Demonstrated polite and respectful interactions with all school community members
  • Ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities
  • Ability to problem-solve and trouble shoot
  • Mechanically inclined
  • English language comprehension level for effective verbal and written communication
