Development Assistant
 

King David High School is a leading Jewish independent school committed to academic excellence, Jewish values, and community engagement. We are seeking a creative and highly organized Development Assistant to support our development team. The role reports directly to the Director of Development. We are looking for someone to start after Passover.

80% position – 4 days a week

 

Key Responsibilities

Assist in donor cultivation, solicitation, and recognition cycle:

  • Support the school’s fundraising efforts by engaging parents and community members through outreach and relationship-building
  • Write, review, edit, and coordinate solicitation letters for annual fund and annual report, plus giving appeal, events, and holidays, and special donor correspondences
  • Draft and coordinate additional donor correspondences, including receipts and acknowledgment letters
  • Assist in the preparation of development presentations and reports for the Board of Directors and the head of school
  • Process donations and track pledges and monthly payments
  • Maintain accurate and updated individuals, corporations, and foundations donor files
  • Create fundraising and other database reports as needed; maintain donor database and mailing lists
  • Coordinate development mailings (mail merges for letters and envelopes)
  • Tribute cards – preparation of tribute cards on behalf of donors, including tracking and recognition for these donations

 

Grant Writing:

  • Initiate and write grant proposals, liaison with community foundations
  • Maintain and update the grant cycle calendar
  • Write grant summary reports

 

Event Duties:

  • Develop and draft key event messaging for speeches, programs, and event materials.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all event information, including committee and volunteer names, Board of Directors listings, donor recognition, and event details.
  • Maintain and update sponsorship and guest lists.
  • Track ticket sales and manage seating assignments.
  • Prepare donor recognition materials, including presentations, posters, and signage.
  • Support committee work by preparing agendas, taking minutes, and collaborating with co-chairs and committees to implement events.
  • Assist in the preparation of media materials, including content for distribution, videos, and event photo slideshows.
  • Assist with event logistics, including coordination with vendors, rental services, entertainment, volunteers, and registration.
  • Coordinate post-event follow-up, including thank-you letters, sponsor receipts, and event reports and summaries.
  • Assist with event budgeting and tracking expenses.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide support at school events related to development and donor cultivation
  • Collaborate with the communications team to design and execute marketing materials for fundraising campaigns, newsletters, social media, and annual reports.

General Administrative Duties:

  • Support the administrative team as needed
  • Office supply tracking: tribute cards and envelopes, letterhead, mailing address labels, donation forms, tribute card forms, event ticket forms, etc.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education and experience with development and event planning in independent schools
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience with analytics tools, RE NXT, Microsoft Office, and/or Google Docs
