POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR – KINDERGARTEN, JUNIOR SCHOOL, FULL-TIME This is continuing full-time position and commences September 1, 2026.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We seek the perspective and expertise of a caring, passionate and creative Early Childhood Educator to support learning and teaching in our school-based Kindergarten program (5-6-year-olds). The successful candidate will co-plan with our teaching team and dedicate their time to one of our Kindergarten classes to support a responsive Kindergarten program that meets students’ cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

•         Co-design, prepare and deliver teaching and learning opportunities that promote play-based inquiry and outdoor learning that align with the BC Early Learning Framework Principles and the BC Kindergarten curriculum within the International Baccalaureate Early Years philosophy and framework

•         Assist students with learning and following routines that contribute to a positive learning and play environment

•         Help embed social-emotional learning (SEL) across the curriculum, including core components of the Second Step Program

•         Support responsive early literacy and numeracy skill development

•         Support the documentation of student inquiries, skill development, and reflections

•         Support Kindergarten core teachers at parent-teacher learning conferences and student-led learning conferences

•         Provide recess playground supervision

•         Assist with the preparation and organisation of classroom materials

•         Participate in the Kindergarten admissions process, including attendance at admissions play date assessments

•         Attend and participate in core school functions and special events

•         Additional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Southridge Faculty Handbook

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

•         Basic Early Childhood Certificate (must be certified with the BC ECE Registry) focus

•         2-3 years of experience working with 4-6-year-olds in an educational context

•         Must be eligible to work in BC

•         Proficient with technology (e.g. Google Suite, Microsoft Office) and ability to learn applications that support the program (e.g. Lexia Core5, SeeSaw)

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

•         Experience with Reggio-inspired principles or outdoor/place-based learning are assets

•         Proven commitment and strong ability to collaborate with colleagues in shared planning and decision making

•         Passion for continuous professional learning and growth

•         Highly collegial and professional team member with effective interpersonal and communication skills

•         A willingness to embrace the Southridge mission, vision, and values

The salary range for this position is from $65,000. to $69,000.
