Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School (KGMS) is an independent school in North Vancouver, BC, dedicated to supporting neurodiverse students with learning differences. Our mission is to provide a structured, supportive, and compassionate learning environment where students build confidence, resilience, and the skills they need to thrive.

KGMS serves students in Grades K–12 and is known for its collaborative, interdisciplinary approach. Our Specialty Services team works alongside educators, families, and community professionals to ensure students receive coordinated support.

Opportunity Overview
KGMS is seeking a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide professional assessment and consultation services under an independent contractor agreement from September 2026 to June 2027.

This contract is focused specifically on:

  • Speech production and articulation assessment
  • Initial screenings and formal assessments
  • Staff consultation
  • Providing clear, practical, community-based referrals and resources for families
  • This role emphasizes assessment, consultation, and referral. It is not an ongoing therapy position.

The contracted SLP will collaborate with the Supervisor of Specialty Services to coordinate scheduling and service delivery within the school environment while maintaining full professional autonomy in clinical judgment and assessment methodology.

Scope of Services

Assessment & Screening

  • Conduct speech production and articulation screenings and comprehensive assessments
  • Interpret assessment results and prepare clear, family-friendly written reports
  • Provide recommendations to support student communication within the classroom setting

Consultation & Collaboration

  • Consult with educators and the Specialty Services team
  • Participate in case discussions as appropriate
  • Provide practical strategies to support speech production within school routines

Referral & Family Support

  • Offer guidance to families regarding community-based SLP services and resources
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate private or public services in Southern BC
  • Support families in understanding assessment findings and recommended next steps

Documentation & Professional Standards

  • Maintain documentation in accordance with professional and regulatory standards
  • Ensure ethical practice and confidentiality
  • Adhere to College and provincial regulatory requirements

Independent Contractor Terms
This is a contract-for-services opportunity. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide services as an independent practitioner
  • Maintain professional autonomy in assessment approach and clinical decision-making
  • Invoice KGMS monthly for services rendered
  • Be responsible for all income tax, CPP, and other statutory remittances
  • Maintain current professional liability insurance
  • Supply their own professional assessment tools and materials
  • Be free to provide services to other clients or organizations

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Health and Care
  • Professionals of BC (or equivalent BC regulatory body)
  • Experience assessing speech production and articulation in school-aged children and adolescents
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within educational environments
  • Experience working with neurodiverse learners

Time Commitment & Compensation

  • September 2026 – June 2027
  • Approximately 4–8 service days per month
  • Scheduling to be mutually agreed upon
  • Contract rate to be negotiated based on experience and scope of services
