Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Permanent – 0.5 FTE

Compensation: $40,000 to $60,000 based on experience and qualifications

Position Overview:

Aspengrove is an independent International Baccalaureate Continuum school in Nanaimo, with over 330 students ranging from JK3 up to Grade 12. We strive to provide an exceptional educational experience and a comprehensive co-curricular program in a caring and collaborative environment. Our staff and faculty are integral to creating an inspiring, inclusive, and positive learning environment and workplace at Aspengrove School. 

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Human Resources Director will serve as a strategic partner to the leadership team, developing and implementing policies that align with our company’s vision for growth and excellence. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating all recruitment related activities in partnership with the leadership team including job posting creation, candidate screening and perform reference checks
  • Ensuring timely communication of all faculty and staff appointments, departures and employment changes
  • Implementing and updating job descriptions for all positions to ensure faculty and staff members fully understand the scope of work
  • Maintaining and Updating Employee Handbook to ensure it is compliant with all applicable legislation in the areas of employment standards, human rights, and health and safety
  • Responsible for all employment contracts related to faculty and staff
  • Coordinating with the payroll function within the Finance department
  • Ensuring BC Teacher Certifications are current
  • Processing and maintaining Criminal Record Checks for all non-faculty staff

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Excellent interpersonal skills leading to creating and fostering a great work environment for all employees
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related discipline with an emphasis on Human Resources Management
  • 2+ years’ experience in similar role
  • CHRP designation would be an asset

Criminal Record Check:

Must pass and maintain a clear criminal record check for the purposes of working with children
