Position: Outdoor Education ACMG Backcountry Ski Guide (Temporary)

Salary: Daily rate: $500 – $600, dependent on experience and qualifications
We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic ACMG-certified Backcountry Ski Guide to support our winter Outdoor Education programs for students in Grade 10 (ages 15-16). This program introduces students to the fundamentals of safe, responsible, and enjoyable winter travel in the mountains while fostering teamwork, resilience, and environmental stewardship.
Guides will lead small groups of students on multi-day backcountry ski expeditions, providing instruction in backcountry travel, avalanche safety, route finding, and winter camping. Guides will also help facilitate reflection and debrief activities that align with the school’s outdoor education philosophy and core values.
Remuneration is based on a daily rate according to an established pay scale, commensurate with experience and ACMG certification level.

Trip 1: February 17 – 20, 2026
Trip 2: February 24 – 27, 2026
Responsibilities will include:
- Lead and supervise, with a co-instructor, a group of up to 10 students in a winter backcountry setting.
- Providing educational programming in accordance with the school’s outdoor skills curriculum.
- Provide instruction in avalanche awareness, route planning, terrain management, and backcountry travel techniques.
- Model and teach, group decision-making, and Leave No Trace principles.
- Support student growth through reflection, discussion, and experiential learning.
- Participate in pre-trip staff training and post-trip debriefs.
- Reporting on the progress and achievement of participants at the end of each program.
- Assist with trip logistics, risk management planning, and basic maintenance of shared program equipment.
- Ensure adherence to school safety policies and field procedures.
- Basic maintenance on equipment and supplies to be used on trips.
Qualifications will include:
The following are requirements for this position:
- Demonstrated interest in outdoor education programs and experience leading youth or adult groups in winter mountain environments.
- Current ACMG Full Ski Guide certification.
- Strong leadership, judgment, and risk management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Current Ops Level 2 or equivalent professional avalanche training.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written forms.
- 80+ hour first aid course.
Preference will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:
- Class 4 driver’s license or equivalent.
- Industry qualifications in outdoor skill areas applicable to the trips being offered.
