Temporary Grounds Worker (Full-Time)

Brentwood College School in Mill Bay, BC is seeking a Temporary Grounds Worker to support our Facilities Department during a maternity leave. This full-time role begins immediately and is expected to continue until June 2027. About the Role

As part of the Grounds team, you will help ensure our campus remains clean, safe, well‑maintained, and visually appealing for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include landscaping, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, seasonal work, and general facilities support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mow, trim, edge, and weed lawns and landscaped areas
  • Assist with planting, maintaining, and pruning trees, shrubs, and gardens
  • Perform roof, gutter, moss, and drainage maintenance on building exteriors
  • Keep walkways, patios, and entrances free of debris
  • Support pond, fountain, irrigation, and drainage system upkeep
  • Assist with waste removal and pest control
  • Operate and maintain equipment including utility vehicles, lawn tractors, chainsaws, blowers, and pressure washers
  • Participate in snow and ice removal
  • Support event setup and takedown across campus

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or similar outdoor work (2+ years preferred) with a strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with gas‑powered equipment
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
  • Level 1 First Aid (training provided annually)
  • BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Asset: education or training in horticulture, arboriculture, irrigation, turf management, or landscape horticulture diploma/BC Trades Qualification

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work independently with a positive and flexible approach
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Full-time with occasional weekend, evening, or overtime shifts depending on operational needs
  • Work may involve heights, ladders, and man lifts

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $23.75
  • Provincial statutory holidays plus paid Boxing Day
