About the Role:
This is a full time role paying $26.00/hr. with full benefits and company pension. As our 2nd Cook, you’ll be an essential part of the Kitchen team, reporting to the Manager of Food Services. You’ll take a hands-on approach to assisting with meal preparation, focusing on:
- Meal Preparation: Assisting with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, ensuring high-quality and diverse offerings
- Salad & Sandwich Bar Mastery: Preparing, stocking, setting up, and breaking down full salad and sandwich bars, ensuring they are always clean, well-presented, and adequately stocked with fresh ingredients
- Allergy Management & Prep: Maintaining prep lists, noting ingredients for allergies and sensitivities, and making allergy management a top priority
- Baking Delights: Preparing and baking a variety of items, including cookies, desserts, birthday cakes, and brunch pastries
- Catering Support: Planning and preparing food requests for events outside the main dining hall, including trays for administration and special events
- Maintaining High Standards: Ensuring all work complies with health and safety regulations, adhering strictly to sanitary and safe food handling guidelines
What You Bring:
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated experience in a similar food preparation role, ideally in a large restaurant, hotel, or institutional setting, where attention to detail and cleanliness were paramount
- Certifications: Current Food Safe certification is required; First Aid is a valuable asset. WHMIS training will be provided
- Allergy Expertise: Strong knowledge of allergies and special dietary food preparation
- Culinary Skills: Experience in baking, preparing sandwiches, and creating salads, with a knack for developing new recipes. Experience with catering and buffet preparation is a bonus
- Adaptability & Drive: The ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle tasks independently without constant supervision
- Team Player Mentality: Excellent communication and listening skills, with a positive and supportive attitude, ready to collaborate with co-workers
- Physical Fitness: The physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting (up to 50 lbs occasionally), bending, and reaching
