The Position:
The School is seeking a dynamic teacher who will complement a strong science department. As well as a passion for teaching, the successful candidate will provide our students with an inspirational, educational experience in the learning environment. The teaching assignment for this position will include junior and senior level science courses and we are looking for a candidate to bring an interdisciplinary mindset to their classes. The exact assignments will depend on the background and experience of the selected candidate. Experience teaching in an Advanced Placement (AP) or senior International Baccalaureate (IB) setting is an asset.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching senior level science classes and/or general science across all grade levels (specific courses assigned will depend on your background).
Serving as a Homeroom Advisor for a group of students.
Working collaboratively within the Science department as well as with multiple departments on curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Consistent and professional communication with students, faculty and parents.
A commitment to teaching understanding using a standards-based assessment model.
A commitment to embedding experiential and authentic learning opportunities in the sciences.
Maintaining effective ongoing assessment of student learning in order to provide clear feedback to students and their parents.
Liaising with teaching faculty, parents and administration as an advocate for students.
Practicing professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement.
Contributing to the extra-curricular (and boarding life) of the school.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interests:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, in a Science field (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
Eligible for, or holder of a current BC teaching certificate.
Familiarity with the BC Curriculum and Independent School experience is an asset.
Experience teaching senior level science courses in a Senior School setting
Experience teaching AP or senior level IB is an asset
Strong communication skills.
Experience with cross curricular planning and assessment in science-based courses.
Experience using Google Classroom and other technology to support learning.
An understanding of current differentiation strategies and commitment to the needs of all learners.
Growth mindset and ability to offer and receive professional feedback.
Evidence of innovative and inspiring teaching practices and assessment.
Evidence and commitment to a collaborative approach with a team of talented educators.
Experience working in an environment of excellence where a broad spectrum of programs operate simultaneously, demanding a great deal of forward planning and creativity.
Commitment to pastoral care and to delivering high quality education through a holistic lens.
Experience teaching a broad spectrum of senior level science courses is an asset.
Experience with STEAM initiatives is an asset.
Salary:
Annual salary range: $74,040 – $119,832
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
