School Spotlight

In early April, Jaiden A, G9, represented Mulgrave School at the BC Junior Public Speaking Championships. He won four awards and was named the champion speaker of the tournament, qualifying him to enter the upcoming Canadian Junior National Public Speaking Competition.

For his persuasive speech, Jaiden chose the topic of misinformation because of its impact on millions of people. Using different lenses to examine algorithms, the role of government, consumer behaviour, and social media regulations, Jaiden shared different ways to stop the spread of misinformation.

Jaiden says that public speaking skills not only help him communicate effectively in everyday life, but also in formal situations such as class presentations and essays. “The power of speaking to issues you’re passionate about and seeing unique viewpoints is incredibly valuable in broadening your perspective,” he adds. Congratulations Jaiden and good luck with your public speaking competition!
