The Position: 
The School is seeking a dynamic Humanities teacher who will complement a strong and dedicated Middle School Humanities department. As well as a passion for teaching, the successful candidate will provide our students with an inspirational, educational experience. The teaching assignment for this position will include teaching Humanities at a Grade 6 to 8 level and a contribution to the Middle School co-curricular program. 

Responsibilities include: 

• Teaching Humanities at the Middle School level. 
• Serving as a Homeroom Advisor for a group of students. 
• Working collaboratively with multiple departments on curriculum, instruction and assessment. 
• Consistent and professional communication with students, faculty and parents. 
• A commitment to teaching for understanding using a standards-based assessment model. 
• Maintaining effective ongoing assessment of student learning in order to provide clear feedback to students and their parents. 
• Liaising with teaching faculty, parents, and administration as an advocate for students. 
• Practicing professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection and continuous improvement. 
• Contributing to the extra-curricular life of the school. 

The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest: 

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably with a specialization in an area of Humanities and/or Social Studies. 
• Eligible for, or holder of a current BC teaching certificate. 
• Recent experience teaching Humanities at the Elementary and/or Middle School level. 
• Experience implementing the BC Curriculum and Independent School experience is an asset. 
• A strong background in literacy instruction. 
• Experience with interdisciplinary, inquiry and project-based learning. 
  Strong communication skills. 
• Experience with cross-curricular planning and assessment. 
• An understanding of current best differentiation practices and commitment to the needs of all learners. 
• Experience using Google Classroom and other technology to support learning. 
• Strong collaborative skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. 
• A proven ability to communicate effectively with parents and colleagues along with demonstrated leadership. 
• A deep understanding of the developmental needs of Middle School learners. 
• Growth mindset and ability to offer and receive professional feedback. 
• Evidence of innovative and inspiring teaching practices and assessment. 
• Experience working in an environment of excellence where a broad spectrum of programs operate simultaneously, demanding a great deal of forward planning and creativity. 
• Commitment to pastoral care and collective responsibility for student’s academic and social-emotional well-being. 
• A commitment to and involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. 

Salary: 
Annual salary range: $71,536 – $115,780. 

Criminal Record Check: 
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
