Coordinator – Summer Day Camps 
 
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic coordinator for our Summer Camps program. In consultation with our After School Care & Camps Coordinator, this position coordinates the operation of Summer Discovery & Adventure Camps and supports other camps held at the Junior School Campus. The position plans, schedules and implements camps throughout the summer. 
 
Our preferred candidate will have experience working in a camp setting with groups of children ages 5 to 11 years old. Experience supporting, leading, and working within a team environment is ideal. This role will require direct care of children, and travel between campuses may be required. 

Work Schedule:  
June 3, 2024: required orientation session. 
June 3 to August 30, 2024: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Discovery & Adventure Camps 
  • Coordinate the planning, supervision and operation of Discovery & Adventure Camps. 
  • Manage camp staff’s schedules and provide support and input where needed (8 – 10 staff). 
  • Provide guidance and support to Senior Camp Leaders to develop camp program schedules.  
  • Monitor the delivery of age-appropriate play opportunities, ensuring they are carried out in a safe and caring environment for children 5 to 11 years old.  
  • Communicate with camp leaders concerning registration information and supply them with the required equipment. 
  • Plan, book and organize weekly out trips for camps with input from Senior Leaders.  
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting related to enrolment, behavior, and incidents.
  • Perform the duties of Senior Camp Leader and Camp Leader, as required. 

 
General Duties 

  • Establish clear and ongoing communication with all stakeholders, including parents, administrators, faculty, and community partners. 
  • Email parents with upcoming program information and answer inquiries.  
  • Support all other camps held at the Junior School Campus by checking in with staff, ensuring safety standards are being met and being a first point of contact for their camp leaders. 
  • Opens Junior School campus each morning. 
  • Communicates promptly with custodial and/or maintenance staff when issues arise. 
  • Ensures Junior School equipment is used as intended and that the facility is returned to its original setup. 
  • If applicable, comply with Island Health Child Care Licensing Regulations and ensure staff understand and follow them. 

Experience and Qualifications:  

  • Relevant post-secondary education, preferably in the field of Recreation, Childcare, or similar programs.  
  • Three years of related experience in a camp setting and/or program development and delivery.  
  • Supervisory experience considered an asset. 
  • Experience using Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written, with internal and external customers. 
  • Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment and work as a positive and collaborative team member. 
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Organized with the ability to manage competing priorities. 
  • Valid First Aid certificate. 
  • Class 5 Drivers License preferred. 
  • Class 4 unrestricted Drivers License or the ability and willingness to obtain one is an asset. 

Pay Range: 
Hourly pay range: $24.69 – $29.05. 

Criminal Record Check: 
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
