Pearson College UWC is recruiting for an outstanding IBDP Biology & Chemistry Teacher

Reporting to:       Deputy Head of College – Academics

Position Summary:

Pearson College UWC is seeking a teacher with a strong academic and practical background in Biology and Chemistry. Both subject courses serve to accommodate the range of needs, interests, and abilities of students, and to fulfill the requirements of various university and career aspirations. The IBDP Biology and Chemistry curricula emphasize both theoretical understanding and practical skills through laboratory work, investigations, and data analysis. Additionally, there is a focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of biological concepts to real-world issues and scenarios. The knowledge and skills students obtain will be put into the context of the way science and scientists work in the 21st century and the ethical debates and limitation of creative scientific endeavour. Expertise and interest to teach other IBDP subjects such as TOK would be considered an asset.

Education, Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, preferably a Master’s degree.
  • Teaching experience at the upper secondary school level or university level in the subjects or related fields.
  • Experience teaching within the IB curriculum, or a comparative externally examined advanced level course of study for high school students.
  • Qualifications and experience to serve as a leader in one of the College’s creative, activity, or service activities, which are integral to Pearson College’s educational model and approach to experiential education. Outdoor and/or waterfront education experience is an asset.
  • International experience or appropriate experience to prepare for working with a diverse population of students from 80 different countries, some coming from very difficult realities.

All applicants should have as much passion for teaching the subject to highly motivated 16-19-year-old students from around the world as they have passion for the subject itself. Faculty and students at Pearson College UWC see education extending beyond the classroom and, as such, all Faculty are expected to lead by example and partner with students in their engagement with the community, locally, nationally, and internationally. This commitment includes leading creative, activity or service (CAS) activities as well as engagement in boarding life. Candidates must be open to participating in and contributing to the community life of the College. Faculty members also act as advisors to small student groups, which is integral to our student support within and outside of the classroom.

Compensation & Organization

This is a full-time position, located at Pearson College UWC in Metchosin, approximately 40 minutes from downtown Victoria. The appointment is to start on August 1, 2024, for a two-year term. Deadline for application submissions is May 15, 2024. Remuneration for this position is based on qualifications and experience according to the College’s salary scale ranging from $57,574.00 to $102,959.00 per annum.
