French Teacher, MYP/DP (Grades 7-12)

Full-Time, Permanent (Starting February 2025)

Mulgrave is an International Baccalaureate Continuum school offering the PYP (PK-Grade 5), MYP (Grades 6-10) and DP (Grades 11-12). As an IB school, language learning is a core element of our educational program, and all students study at least one language in addition to English, starting in PK. Students are encouraged and supported to achieve a high level of proficiency by dedicated language teachers working in a collegial and well-resourced teaching environment. We are now seeking applicants for the role of MYP/DP French Teacher (Grades 7-12).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach IB MYP and/or DP French language acquisition courses
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of and passion for the French language and Francophone cultures
  • Collaborate with the other members of the European Languages team to continuously develop and strengthen our language learning program, both in and out of the classroom
  • Serve as Homeroom Advisor for a group of approximately 12 Senior School (Grades 10-12) students, alongside one other Teacher

  • Develop a classroom environment that builds positive relationships and fosters an ethic of care
  • Design, prepare and deliver learning activities that facilitate authentic engagement
  • Use relevant technology to enhance instruction and learning
  • Design and implement a range of authentic formative and summative assessments, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students
  • Model respectful and timely communication with students, colleagues and parents
  • Attend professional development workshops as required by the school
  • Endorse the school’s mission and values

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a Canadian resident and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Hold BC teacher certification, or meet all TRB requirements and be willing and able to obtain certification to teach in BC
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in French, with native-level command of the language, both oral & written
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching French language to adolescents

Preferred Experience and Qualities:

  • Experience teaching DP French
  • Involvement with the IB Educator Network as a Workshop Leader, Examiner, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
  • Experience teaching within the IB DP framework
  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate programmes

Compensation:

The base annual salary for this position is competitive and falls within the range of $70,000.00 – $119,000.00. The final salary offer will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, and relevant experience in accordance with BC labour laws and company policies.
