Commensurate with placement on the SMS Tutorial Salary Grid.
This is a bargaining unit position in the Professional Employees Association.

St Margaret’s School is seeking a self-motivated, energetic and team-oriented teacher to join our small and vibrant school community. We are seeking an inspiring educator who has a passion for, and experience and expertise with, the Grades 10-12 Social Studies curriculum. Essential to this role is a commitment to engaging student learning to the overall mission and vision of the school. This includes the proven use of innovative instructional strategies through designing and implementing interdisciplinary units of study anchored in an inquiry approach. Key to this role is a motivation to work in an environment that develops competent, confident and courageous girls within an inclusive learning environment.

At St. Margaret’s School, teachers are required to participate in the extra-curricular life of the school.

Job Duties include

·         Create, implement and deliver the Grade 10-12 BC Social Studies curriculum, including Social Justice 12, 20th Century World History 12, and AP Human Geography.

·         Create inquiry-focused learning opportunities, inclusive of team-teaching.

·         Regular collaboration with colleagues to share ideas and plan interdisciplinary units.

·         Incorporate differentiation strategies to support a diversity of learning styles.

·         Attend regular staff meetings and school-required events.

·         Preparation of student progress reports is required, both formal written reports and regular, informal communication with parents.

·         Available to attend meetings with parents and colleagues to support the needs of the students in the class.

Requirements and Qualifications include
·         Current and valid Teacher Certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch

·         Minimum of a Bachelor of Education, with a focus in Social Studies education

·         Experience with, and a proficient understanding of, the Grade 10-12 BC Social Studies curriculum

·         Experience teaching AP Human Geography desirable, or ability to engage in related AP training prior to September 1st, 2022

·         Demonstrates exemplary teaching, rooted in an inquiry approach

·         Familiar with a variety of instructional strategies to meet the individual needs of students

·         Demonstrates a collaborative work ethic

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Embodies a growth mindset

·         Experience working as part of a learning team

·         Evidence of continued professional growth

·         Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates integrity

·         Actively support the vision, mission and values of our school
