Maintenance and Grounds Worker
Permanent, Full Time starting as soon as possible
St. Michaels University School is dedicated to maintaining a clean, safe, functioning, and welcoming environment for our students, employees, and visitors. We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Grounds Worker and Building Maintenance Worker to join our team.
Reporting to the Facilities Manager, Maintenance and Grounds Worker is responsible for routine maintenance tasks ensuring the proper upkeep of our buildings, equipment, grounds, properties and playing fields. This position includes various semi-skilled and manual tasks determined by the school’s operational needs.
Work Schedule:
The hours of work, depending on the area of work, are Monday-Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 (Grounds) or 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (Maintenance) and could occasionally involve evenings and weekends. A typical work week would include 3 days/week with Grounds, and 2 days with Maintenance, depending on departmental priorities. The work is physical, includes some heavy lifting and working outdoors during inclement weather.
Responsibilities include:
Building Maintenance:
Performing routine inspections and maintenance of buildings.
Repairing and painting walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
Fixing plumbing issues, such as leaks and clogs.
Responding to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
Familiarity with HVAC systems.
Grounds Work:
When working in this area you will be reporting to the Grounds Supervisor.
Mowing lawns, edge trimming, and maintaining flower beds.
Removing weeds, debris, and litter from grounds.
Planting and caring for trees, shrubs, and flowers.
Operating and maintaining landscaping equipment.
Snow removal and de-icing walkways.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience and knowledge of general aspects of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems.
Knowledge of building maintenance.
Basic knowledge of landscaping, landscaping equipment maintenance.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and responsibility while working with minimal supervision.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact professionally with staff, students, and parents.
Ability to work in and promote a team approach and environment.
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet established timelines.
Good problem-solving skills.
Good Physical condition and ability to lift heavy objects.
Basic computer skills such and ability to learn new software applications.
Valid B.C. Drivers License (Class 5).
First aid/CPR certificate would be an asset.
Pay Range:
Hourly pay range: $28.25 – $33.23
Annual salary range: $55,088 – $64,791
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
