Digital Media Specialist
Permanent, Full Time (1.0 FTE), starting as soon as possible

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Digital Media Specialist is a digital media savvy content creator and strategist who can “show” stories, drive engagement and stay on top of the rapidly changing digital world. The primary purpose of this role is to create the visual content that supports the St. Michaels University School (SMUS) marketing and communications plan, which includes storytelling, student recruitment and advancement initiatives.
In support of a wide variety of departments and SMUS initiatives, this role’s duties will include supporting social media platform management and strategy, digital media content creation (organic and paid content), writing for web and social media, social media advertising, as well as working directly with students, staff, faculty and vendors. This role will also provide regular reports on social and digital media platform and content performance and provide recommendations for future campaigns and strategies.
Work Schedule:
Department hours of work are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of this role, the Digital Media Specialist will occasionally need to be available outside of regular work hours for evening or weekend work to capture student activities/events.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations:
Social Media Platform Management
Help manage the SMUS social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn, helping engage and grow our audiences. This will include curating, writing, editing, publishing, and updating content
Analyze, interpret and report out on social media content, engagement and ads
Research and provide best practices for platforms and content trends, including advertising platforms, to reach target audiences
Content Creator
Create engaging video content for multiple platforms including fast-paced, vertical social media videos and longer form, horizontal videos
Be comfortable taking photos at school activities and events of students and staff/faculty (smartphone and SLR camera)
Provide photography and videography components to stories, social media, website and publications
Contribute to planning, writing and posting content for web, e-mail and social media
Experienced and creative content creator for multiple platforms including tailoring the same piece of content for different audiences and platforms
Understands and applies brand and style guides to content
Marketing Strategy
Collaborate effectively with colleagues in various departments including Marketing and Communications, Admissions and Advancement to design, execute and evaluate local and global marketing campaigns
Foster strong relationships with current students and the student Marketing and Communications club and provide leadership to encourage user-generated content
Understand and advise best practices for managing multiple, concurrent content goals for the same channels
Working effectively to with external vendors or contractors to support digital marketing campaigns
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:
Post-secondary education in digital media, marketing, communications and at least three years of professional experience.
Experience working directly with Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 students and/or relevant experience from the education industry is an asset.
Demonstrated experience in how to promote, package and story tell in an effective, engaging and entertaining way
Confident video creator that understanding the demands of different platforms, trending videos and how to use various video equipment
Proficient in DSLR cameras, smartphone photography, photography composition and image resizing and optimization.
Excellent knowledge of web and social media analytics and reporting
Experience with or demonstrated ability to quickly learn Facebook Business, Google Analytics 4, Google AdWords, TikTok Business and Mailchimp
Proficient with business tools and platforms: Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Hootsuite, Apple computers
High level of attention to detail as well as the capacity to be a proactive and analytical problem solver
Exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
Ability to be tactful and demonstrate excellent judgement
Organized with the ability to work under deadlines with conflicting demands from various departments
Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to conduct research, prepare and present reports
Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgement, and work as a positive and collaborative team member
Pay Range:
Annual pay range: $75,000 – $85,000
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
