Salary
Starting wage of $35.90 per hour.  Range of $35.90 – $37.70 per hour, depending on years of service at SMS.
This is a bargaining unit position, in the Professional Employees Association.

Summary
St. Margaret’s School (SMS) is Western Canada’s only girl-centered, independent day and boarding school located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nations, Songhees Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations. Founded in 1908, SMS is an international centre for girl-centered learning and leadership development, providing empowering education for girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 (boarding grades 7–12). St. Margaret’s School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering the Diploma Program.

Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Digital Communications and Graphics Design Specialist promotes the St. Margaret’s School vision, programs, activities, and events. The role supports a communications strategy aligned with the school’s Strategic Plan and responsive to emerging needs and trends. Content creation is the Digital Communications and Graphics Design Specialist’s core deliverable.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

Writing:

Write clear, concise, and effective content for a variety of media including advertising, print, web, and social media.
Provide superior editorial expertise and proofreading for a variety of written content.

Design & Production:

  • Design collateral marketing materials and promotional materials in support of advancement and enrolment.
  • Design, produce and distribute online/social media marketing content to variety of audience groups.
  • Coordinate technical specifications for design projects to be outsourced.
    Oversee publication/print production schedules.
  • Attends school events to take photos and videos (social media and newsletter use).

Planning, Processes and Standards:

  • Maintain the school’s brand guidelines and ensure consistency of graphic standards.
  • Coordinates branding reviews.
  • Work with the team to tell stories that reflect the life of the School.
  • Develop school content strategy with the Director of Advancement.

Web / Social:

  • Maintain and update key digital platforms including website and social media.
  • Coordinate a content calendar. 
  • Manage the school profile on various external websites.

Marketing:

  • Manage, maintain, and update the database for email and event marketing (CRM). 
  • Design digital marketing ads (IG, Facebook, etc.) and traditional graphic projects.
  • Assist team members in formatting and archiving photographs, documents, and presentations.

Public Relations:

  • Identify opportunities to highlight the successes of the school.
  • Identify school news and events of interest to the Director for potential media interest.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with other team members to ensure marketing and public relations campaigns are optimized.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field coupled with more two or more years’ experience (equivalent education will be considered).
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in design and digital marketing.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Superior writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to set strategic priorities, identify plans of action and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working with creative contractors and agency representatives.

  • Strong blend of creativity, design, and organization skills.
  • Exceptional working knowledge of social media channels and platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email marketing, website design, and standard desktop applications.
  • Experience with web content management systems.
  • Experience with HubSpot is an asset.
  • Demonstrated Photography experience.
  • Knowledge of video production.
  • WordPress expertise including plugins and 3rd party marketplace.

Work Conditions:

  • The work schedule may include evening and weekend activities/duties.
  • Busy office setting, fast-paced environment.
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting.
