Crofton House School is seeking an experienced band teacher to lead and inspire a talented group of musicians on a full-time, fixed-term contract covering a maternity leave.

The music program at Crofton House is an ideal teaching environment for experienced band teachers passionate about music who want to share their passion with dedicated students.

You will have the opportunity to teach and work beside other exceptional music teachers who inspire students to develop and pursue their interest in all areas of music, including band, orchestra and choir. The facilities for music study and performance are well equipped, offering bright and technology-rich learning environments.


Teaching early morning senior band classes, Gr. 10-12 combined  (7:15 – 8:15 am) on Tuesdays and Thursdays
Teaching in timetable band classes, Gr. 6 (beginners), 7, and 8/9 combined (intermediate)
Preparing the concert bands (Gr. 6- 12) for an evening winter concert
Supporting, the music team in preparing for and producing all student concerts
Contributing to student report cards, grades and comments
Work with students both in and out of the timetable (co-curricular commitments)
Be responsible for the creation of a safe, caring and orderly learning environment
Learn and teach collaboratively with teachers in the department to plan, develop, implement an extraordinary learning experience for each individual student
Maintain the band instrument fleet and when necessary, organize repairs, etc.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:

Relevant university qualifications preferably at the graduate level (e.g. Bachelor of Education plus Bachelor of Music or equivalent)
B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria
Experience in an independent school, an asset
Experience teaching beginner, intermediate and senior level band students
Excellent rehearsal skills (conducting skills, pacing, problem-solving, diagnosing and assessing within a rehearsal setting)
A proficiency on all standard band instruments, including percussion, with an exceptional ability on at least one
Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching
Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

Classes begin in September 2021 following teacher orientation in late August 2021.
