Practicum Counselor, Senior School (Unpaid)

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

A Senior School Practicum Counselor will provide one-on-one social-emotional support to students 1 to 3 days a week, as well as facilitate psychoeducational groups, work on SEL programming, attend staff meetings, and coordinate with teachers and learning resource staff to support students. Suitable candidates will be up-to-date on empirically researched intervention methods for youth with regards to a variety of mental health concerns.

They will be able to make a commitment to remain with the students for the 2023-24 school year, which runs from September to June. If this is not possible consideration may be given the right candidate for a placement from September to December or September to March. The ideal candidate is flexible and dynamic, with strong empathy and rapport-building skills. Experience working with youth and families is an asset.

This is an unpaid practicum placement for a Masters-level student to achieve graduation requirements and gain experience working in a school environment. Current enrollment in a Master of Counselling, Master of Education in Counselling Psychology is a requirement. The student must have completed a majority of their coursework including Ethics, and be in good standing with their graduate program.

Consideration of interested students will begin in May 2023, with placement beginning at the start of the school year September 2023.
