Position: Library Clerk (30-35 hours/week)

Department: Learning Commons

Reports to: Head of Senior Learning Commons

Starting date: September 2024

Application closing date: August 30, 2024

Salary: $24 per hour

The Library Support Clerk provides administrative support at the Senior School and works closely with students and faculty in terms of supporting the running of the Learning Commons.  The Clerk’s primary role is to promote the Learning Commons and our resources.  This individual is an active reader and has a creative flair in preparing library boards, displays, and communications that foster reading and the use of the Learning Commons generally.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and carrying out a promotion programme that increases use of Learning Commons resources.  This would include, but not be limited to bulletin board displays, other displays, and e-newsletter campaigns;
  • Assisting students and staff in the retrieval and circulation of library material;
  • Developing relationships with readers to be better able to effectively recommend reading;
  • Processing and repairing library materials;
  • Supervising students during lunch and before  school;
  • Shelving and shelf-reading;
  • Assisting in the weeding and inventory process;
  • Additional tasks as required by the Learning Commons team;
  • Perform textbook management duties as required.

 

Qualifications will include:

  • Experience supervising or working with Secondary School students;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clerical skills;
  • Experience in a library environment is an asset;
  • Enthusiasm for reading and sharing that reading with others;
  • Knowledge or familiarity working with a library automated system;
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and independently;
  • Ability to work with and learn a variety of computer platforms including but not limited to Google products, Library Management Software, Library Aware, and Libguides.
