Position Overview:
The Assistant Athletics Director (AAD) oversees the coordination of various programs in the Athletic Organization appointed by the Athletic Director (AD). The AAD promotes the athletics program to all stakeholders and encourages student and staff involvement in that program. The AAD works closely with the school leadership team, all grades, and the AD to develop a school-wide Athletics Programme that produces strong engagement from our students, staff, and parents to the school’s athletics program. The AAD will maintain a strong commitment to inter-school athletics organizations and provide leadership to these bodies through an ongoing commitment to them.
Qualifications
- British Columbia Teacher certification (preferred)
- Class 4 Drivers License (or willing to obtain)
- Criminal Record Check

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The AAD reports to the Athletic Director and will help with the following responsibilities identified:
- Develops, maintains, and oversees Athletic Administration on Teamsnap
- Schedules weekly athletic calendars and organizes school wide practices with coaches and students
- Develops and assists, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the Athletics Programme (through the Athletics Handbooks)
- Develops Sport Performance Enhancement/Strength and Conditioning for age-appropriate sports teams
- Develops, assists, operates, and promotes inter-school athletics opportunities for students
- Represents the Athletics Programme to school constituencies
- Creates and maintains athletics policies and procedures
- Communicates Athletics Programme expectations to students, parents/guardians and other staff as required
- Hiring coaches and staff personnel for summer, winter, and spring camps
- Ensures/assists that all coaching positions are filled with competent coaches who are informed of and committed to the school’s policies and procedures
- Recruits teacher sponsors for outside coaches when needed
- Coordinates transportation needs with coaches, teacher sponsors, members of the facilities department, and other staff, as required
- Ensures that electronic platforms of communication with students and parents are up to date with rosters, parent information, and practice/game/tournament schedules
- Coordinates scheduling of all Stratford Hall athletics venues with the Athletics Director and the Facilities Department
- Provides schedules of all athletic contests to staff, students and parents as required
- Hires game officials as needed
- Coordinates scorekeepers and training of scorekeepers
- Develops safety protocols for treating injuries
- Ensures first aid kits are stocked for coaches and teacher sponsors
- Assists in the supervision of personnel hired to support the athletics department
- Recruits and liaises with volunteers who assist with school teams or athletics events
- Collects and keeps track of Criminal Record Checks and hands into Accounting
- Assists with the purchase and replacement of team uniforms and athletics equipment
- Attends athletic meetings of athletics directors and of affiliated associations (ISA, GVISAA, FV, ISEA etc.).
- Coordinates athletic opportunities with local public schools
- Ensures that Stratford Hall plays its full part in organizing, hosting, and initiating athletic competitions
- Maintains accurate jersey inventory count and team distribution for sport teams
- Ensures that athletic activities, results, and standings are widely publicized, including Stratford Hall social media postings and platforms (Instagram and Gipper)
- Assists with an annual summary of participation in athletics and athletics achievements for school publications
- Supports the development of student leaders by leading the Athletics Committee
- Addresses concerns related to athletics in a timely manner, involving school leadership as required
Coaching Commitment:
- Three term coaching commitment to sports teams throughout the year
- Provides support to other coaches by teaching skills and assisting coaches with practice, game strategy and strength and conditioning
