Nearly a century later, thousands of students have found their unique path and purpose at YHS. Our School has since grown into one of Canada’s leading independent schools for girls. Position Overview
Reporting to the Principal of the Senior School, the Vice Principal, Student Success will work closely with the Vice Principal of Student Life & Belonging to ensure the implementation of the mission, vision, values and strategic teaching and learning priorities of the School. This individual will have oversight of the Learning Strategies team and will work closely with the Director of the Learning Commons, Science Lab technician, Coordinator of the Global Online Academy and the TOC coordinator.

- Demonstrated knowledge and the implementation of best practices with respect to the cognitive and socio-emotional development of girls
- Demonstrated experience as a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic educator
- Experience in progressive discipline and creating systems that promote prosocial behaviour
- Experience in using metrics to measure the success of and inform future action plans
- Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with demonstrated competence in communication and conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all parties (students, parents, staff, faculty, alum)
- Experience with risk management and the implementation of provincial policies related to Safe and Caring Schools
Job Responsibilities:
- With oversight of the Senior School Principal, develops and implements a set of metrics to identify, measure, and monitor data & school improvement related to academic achievement
- Promotes a culture of respect and high standards for personal responsibility, lates, attendance, academic integrity and adherence to assessment schedules and monitoring of missed evaluations
- Serves as 1st point of administrative contact for student, teacher, family to address social, emotional, academic concerns (Level 1/2 of Multi-Tiered System of Supports)
- Oversees administration, data analysis and development of key performance indicators in relation to provincial assessments in the Senior School in coordination with Educational Technology Team & Student Records
- Facilitates and leads the School-Based Team Meetings, Grade 8 Transition Team, Student Progress Meetings, Personal Counselling, Learning Strategies
- Oversee the implementation of the BC Ministry of Education Inclusive Education policy in the Senior School
- Collaborates with the VP of Student Life & Belonging to create a meaningful Grade 8 Transitions program to promote belonging.
- Oversees the Learning Strategies and Learning Commons Department Heads
- Administers and authorizes risk assessment of Level 1 & 2 excursions
- Approves all Guest Visitor/Speaker Applications
- Oversees the Global Online Academy program and supports the GOA Site Director
- Creates and has oversight of the June summative schedules
- Teaches and develops the CLE10 program
Operations:
In collaboration with the Senior school Principal:
- Ensures the smooth operations of the Senior school
- Plans and executes Senior School Staff meetings, Academic program team meetings and Student Success meetings
- Recruits faculty & staff in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources, & Assistant Head of School
- Assists with recruitment of SS staff
- Hires SS Teachers-on-call (TOC)
- Conducts Teacher & Staff evaluations
- Co-facilitates the New Faculty Orientation & New Faculty Meetings with Junior School vice principal
- Participates in Admissions process: interviews, assessments, open houses
- Contributes to communication with Senior School families
- Develops & conducts Program Review of areas where strategically identified
- Co-develops I block programming for Grade 8 and 9 students
- Cultivation of executive functioning skills
- Navigating changing relationships
- Works with the Dean of Academic Excellence to scope and sequence life skills and curricular competencies between the Jr and Sr schools.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
- Bachelor of Education
- A Master’s in Education is preferred
- BC Teacher certification or equivalent
- Demonstrated track record of management and leadership
- 2+ years of experience as an Educational Leader
- 5+ years of teaching experience
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- A high degree of diplomacy and confidentiality
- Flexibility and sense of humour
- Proficiency in using and integrating technology, including data management and analysis
