PYP Coordinator 2023-2024 school year
This role may be combined with another faculty role as a full time role (1.0 FTE) or stand independently as a part time (0.4 – 0.5 FTE) role
Brockton School is currently seeking a Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator to help us in our mission to inspire the growth of outstanding humans.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The IB PYP Programme Coordinator oversees meeting the IB Standards and Practices (2020) and supporting teachers to apply an IB framework to BC Ministry concepts, skills, and content.
He/she will, with the Associate Coordinator, support onboarding of new teachers with IB learning needs, lead planning programme meetings, budget for professional development, support the departments with vetting IB resources and with forward and backward planning that incorporates approaches to teaching approaches to learning, student agency, and community engagement/service.
The PYP Coordinator will regularly meet and record meetings with teachers as needed, meet weekly with the IB Continuum Director and Principal of the Junior School, respectively, and as needed with all coordinators and department chairs to support strategic and continuum planning.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Model the traits of a collaborative and self-motivated leader, encourage a culture of compassion, trust, and kindness in support of the IB Learner Profile, be open and willing to receive constructive feedback, and support the Brockton mission, vision, strategic plan, and priorities.
- Ensure that pedagogical aspects and policies are discussed collaboratively, refined, consistent, and cohesive, information is disseminated (students, parents, teachers), and the programme is planned, delivered, and assessed according to IB requirements.
- Serve as a role model to encourage excellence in teaching practices and continuous professional growth
- Develop and foster positive, trusting, and professional relationships with colleagues
- Support work and leadership with IB, CAIS, and Ministry Evaluations
- Attend regular meetings with Continuum Director, Programme Coordinators, and or Department Chairs to discuss actions, areas of strength and growth, and support innovation
- Support data collection (FSAs, and use data from classroom observations, planning documentation, and the IB self-study and evaluation feedback to establish yearly areas of focus/ priorities to design programme development plans and or action plans.
- Collaborate and support teachers within the IB programme to ensure that curriculum development and planning has vertical and horizontal alignment, backwards design, and support diverse learners
- Facilitate ongoing, timely, supportive feedback and reflection. Offer opportunities for professional dialogue within the meeting
- Adhere to school timelines for all things; role model time management to colleagues and support them in meeting deadlines (for report cards, for IB evaluations, planner completion, etc)
- Report Cards – editing the report card for the grades/ years that pertain to the PYP programme
- Identify, prioritize, and streamline student programme, curricular, and assessment needs and examples to showcase students’ journeys, as well as teacher accountability
- Support planning, student initiatives, programme projects (eg exhibition, personal project, extended essay, CAS project, reflective project) and whole school events, that promote international-mindedness, action, service, and student agency
- Conduct new family admissions interviews and assist in the selection process
- Develop an action plan and find team/ committee leaders to engage in program innovation
- Ensure best practice, vetting of resources, and commitment to outlined tasks and timelines.
- Work closely with product and marketing teams to ensure the teams are closely aligned, making good decisions, and communicating well with partners
- Support, plan, and budget Professional Development: workshops, conferences, school visits, development plans, induction; IB networks
- Deliver positive and constructive feedback based on situational or individual needs of teachers
- Support the IB Associate Coordinator with learning the role in leadership and supportive opportunities
- Contribute to the hiring process for new teaching positions with consideration for the overall needs of the school and ensuring academic excellence
- Stay abreast of Ministry and IB requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- BC Teacher Certification (Teachers Regulation Branch), or alternative, as supported by the BC Ministry of Education Teachers Regulation Branch;
- Legal Standing to work in Canada – an open Canadian Work Permit, Canadian PR visa, or Canadian Citizenship
- 3-5 years of teaching experience in an elementary years setting
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
- IB training and teaching experience
- IB Coordination, Evaluation, and Workshop Lead experience;
- Curriculum Planning
- Teaching experience an asset;
- Experience working directly with young children an asset;
- Passionate about learning and growing as an educator;
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Flexible and innovative when approaching challenges;
- Highly organized;
- Strong time–management and problem-solving skills.
