Teacher on Call (TOC) – Temporary

Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School is an Independent, co-educational school. We are one of a few dedicated Special Education Schools in BC, serving students not only from the North Shore but drawing students from across the lower mainland. We follow the BC Ministry of Education Curriculum, while adapting and differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. We incorporate Orton-Gillingham Methodology, Universal Design for Learning, and Social Emotional Education to deliver a comprehensive educational experience.

Reporting to the Principal, this is an on-call role responding to short-notice or planned staff absences. An orientation to the school and students will be provided to the successful candidate(s). This position would begin immediately. Rolling interviews will be conducted as applications are received.

Qualifications: 

  • Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A valid BC teaching certificate
  • Experience, education, or training with diverse learners
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Strong organisational, communication, administrative and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Responsibilities: 

  • Teach lessons as directed by a teacher, Principal or Vice-Principal
  • Provide teacher on call support as required filling classroom teacher absences on a day-to-day or extended basis.
  • Deliver courses/lesson plans to students according to approved curriculum.
  • Accommodate inclusive education needs of students, including behaviour plans and Individual Education Plans 
  • Support teachers by working in classrooms with small groups and individual students
  • Utilise Google Classroom as learning platform and MyEd to report attendance.
  • Other duties as required

Salary and benefits paid as per the BCGEU collective agreement .
