Brockton School is a nondenominational coeducational Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, independent school, located in North Vancouver, British Columbia. As an IB World Continuum School, Brockton offers the Primary Years, Middle Years, Diploma, and Career-Related programs (one of a handful of schools around the globe with such innovative programming).

The following positions are available for expressions of interest:

Brockton is keen to invite applicants with expertise in any of these areas and will make efforts to align candidates’ needs/interests/expertise with the school’s needs (e.g., part time, full time, combination of subjects/roles, or distinct subjects/roles). 

Senior School Teacher – Economics & Business Management

Focus will be on teaching IB Economics SL/HL, Business Management, Economic Theory 12; ideal candidate will have interest/ability to teach across another subject discipline and/or assignment 

Senior School Teacher – Physical Health and Education

Focus will be on Middle Years PHE; ideal candidate will have interest/ability to teach across another subject discipline and/or assignment

Senior School Teacher – Mathematics – Reposting

Focus will be on Middle Years Mathematics and/or Grade 11 and 12 (possibly including IB HL/SL)

Senior School Teacher – Computer Science

Focus will be on teaching BC Computer Science 11/12; ideal candidate will have interest/ability to teach across another subject discipline and/or assignment

Grade 6 and/or 7 Teacher – English and/or Social Studies  

Focus will be on English (IB Language and Literature) and/or Social Studies (IB Individuals and Societies).  The successful candidate will work within the strategically designed POD program (transition from elementary to high school) and will work collaboratively with teaching partners.

Senior School Librarian 

Focus will be on developing the collection, resources, and programming of the Senior School library, support development of information literacy plan, and programs to develop both recreational reading and academic research skills in support of inquiry-based learning; ideal candidate will have interest/ability to teach across another subject discipline and/or assignment

Junior School Applied Design Skills & Technology (ADST) Teacher 

Focus will be on ADST across grades; ideal candidate will have interest/ability to teach across another subject discipline and/or assignment

Potential School Leadership Roles 

Pending a candidate’s skills/abilities/interests, there are potential opportunities for leadership in the following areas. Expressions of interest are welcomed. 

  • Education Technology Leader
  • IB Career-Related Programme Coordinator
  • Mathematics Department Chair 

 

Qualifications: 

❏ BC Teacher Certification (Teachers Regulation Branch) in the form of a Certificate of Qualification (CoQ) or Independent School Teaching Certificate (ISTC)

❏ Interest in being part of a dynamic and visionary IB school community 

❏ Post-secondary degree/coursework in respective discipline

Ideal characteristics: 

❏ 3-5 years of successful teaching/experience in the field(s) 

❏ DP/CP and MYP teaching experience or Advanced Placement experience is an asset (where applicable)

❏ A love of collaboration and shared problem-solving

❏ A passion for learning and an openness to feedback

❏ Inspire students to want to learn; promote growth mindsets and lifelong learning 

❏ Model and promote the Brockton Portrait of the Graduate & the IB Learner Profile 

❏ Work collaboratively with the Brockton team to understand and implement the requirements of the BC Ministry of Education and IB Programmes (MYP, DP, CP) – where applicable. 

❏ Cultivate a learning environment that is student-centred, that recognizes each student (and family) as unique, and that promotes authentic and professional connections/relationships 

❏ Embrace high standards of professional conduct and professional excellence; pursue best and innovative practice; embrace lifelong learning and personal/ professional growth
