Urban Academy is seeking innovative, future-focused teachers and leaders. Urban Academy is currently inviting dedicated, team-oriented teachers and future leaders to apply for our Middle School Teacher position for the 2023-2024 school year. The focus in this role is the Humanities (Social Studies and English Language Arts) while infusing an interdisciplinary approach.


Faculty are required to support the school’s co-curricular program. The co-curricular program includes recreational athletics, competitive athletics, and academic clubs. Faculty are expected to attend collaborative staff meetings and to serve on committees, if required.

Responsibilities will include:

Dedicated to include diverse voices and perspectives in planning and delivery of  learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global world views
Following the school’s transdisciplinary approach in planning thematic units of inquiry
Demonstrating commitment to incorporating real-world connections, and 21st century skills 
Collaborating with colleagues to align planning, instruction, and assessment.  
Utilizing outcome-based assessment and instruction as well as strong formative and summative assessment strategies.
Building a strong rapport with students and supporting the students’ social and emotional development
Communicating regularly with students, parents, and other stakeholders about student needs and growth
Making relevant and innovative use of multiple technologies in the classroom, to enhance teaching and learning
Participating actively in professional development opportunities and training programs. 

All applicants must possess:

Post-secondary degree in the area of Education.
Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or maintain the ability to obtain one.
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience 
Knowledge of Grade 6 – 8 subjects’ curriculum and ministry requirements for teaching particularly English, Social Studies, Math, and Science
Current on pedagogical trends through continued reading and relevant recent professional development.  
Strong classroom management abilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis on collaborative planning and assessment.
Superior knowledge of curriculum and teaching and learning, specifically when planning educational strategies.  
Strong commitment to student learning and success; being able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.
Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence. 
Energy and dynamism to work in a highly focused environment with students keen to succeed.
