Urban Academy is currently inviting dedicated, team-oriented teachers to apply for our Middle and Senior School ADST and Senior Physics Teacher position for the 2023-2024 school year.

Faculty are required to support the school’s co-curricular program. The co-curricular program includes recreational athletics, competitive athletics, academic clubs, and an emerging robotics program. Faculty are expected to attend collaborative staff meetings and to serve on committees, if required.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

Build a strong rapport with students and support their social and emotional development.
Demonstrate active commitment to student learning and success; be able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.
Develop subject-specific standards to inform teaching, evaluation, and reporting.
Utilize standards-based assessments to evaluate growth in students’ learning related to  Applied Design Skills and Technologies.
Collaborate with colleagues to align planning, instruction, and assessment. 
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate ADST concepts and skills into interdisciplinary projects and activities.
Communicate students’ needs and goals with the parents regularly and in a timely manner.
Participate in the co-curricular program and promote ADST skills and interests.
Include diverse voices and perspectives in planning and delivery of learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global worldviews.
Participate actively in professional development opportunities and training programs. 
Experience with VEX Robotics, Arduino microcontrollers, and 3D Printers an asset.
Ability to teach a second subject (i.e. Mathematics, Science, Career Education), an asset (From a CHS application for ICT teacher.

 Requirements:

Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or the ability to obtain one. 
Knowledge of pedagogical trends through continued reading and relevant recent professional development.  
Strong classroom management abilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence.
