Junior School Teacher (Gr 2 or 3)

Urban Academy is currently inviting dedicated, team-oriented teachers and future leaders to apply for our Junior School Teacher position for the 2023-2024 school year.  Please indicate the recent professional development and co-curricular experience you possess as part of your candidacy for this position.


Faculty are required to support the school’s co-curricular program. The co-curricular program includes recreational athletics, competitive athletics, and academic clubs. Faculty are expected to attend collaborative staff meetings and to serve on committees, if required.


 Responsibilities will include:

Including diverse voices and perspectives in planning and delivery of learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global world views
Building a strong rapport with students and supporting the students’ social and emotional development
Following the school’s transdisciplinary approach in planning thematic units of inquiry
Demonstrating commitment to incorporating real-world connections, and 21st century skills 
Collaborating with colleagues to align planning, instruction, and assessment.  
Making relevant and innovative use of multiple technologies in the classroom, to enhance teaching and learning. 
Teaching for understanding using a standards-based assessment model, utilizing competency-based assessment and instruction as well as strong formative and summative assessment strategies.
Maintaining effective ongoing assessment of student learning in order to provide clear feedback to students and their parents.
Participating actively in collaborative team meetings and professional development and training programs. 
Contributing to the extra-curricular program in the school
Providing supervision for students during recess, lunch, and after school, and occasional class coverage, as assigned 
Communicating consistently and professionally with students, parents, faculty and other stakeholders about student needs and growth
Practicing professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement.


All applicants must possess:

Post-secondary degree in Education.
Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or maintain the ability to obtain one.
Canadian residency and be legally entitled to work in Canada
Superior knowledge of the K-3 curriculum and ministry requirements for planning educational strategies.  
Understanding of pedagogical trends through continued reading and relevant recent professional development.   
Strong classroom management abilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
Collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis on collaborative planning and assessment.
Strong commitment to student learning and success; being able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.
Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence. 
Energy and dynamism to work in a highly focused environment with students keen to succeed.
