Queen Margaret’s School is accepting applications for a Grade 8/9 Science & Math Teacher to join our Senior School faculty, commencing as soon as possible ideally no later than January 2024. This is anticipated to be a 1.0 FTE position, but Queen Margaret’s School reserves the right to confirm FTE based on student enrollment.

Our Grade 8/9 Science & Math Teacher will work in a project-based learning (PBL) team teaching environment with a Humanities co-teaching partner to design, plan and teach engaging and relevant STEAM integrated learning following the British Columbia curriculum.
The ideal candidate will be willing to adopt best practice as it pertains to project-based learning, inquiry, competency and experiential practices. The Grade 8/9 Science & Math Teacher will be a collaborative practitioner who is able to design, develop, assess, and manage STEAM learning experiences with Mathematics and Science curricular competencies, and the QMS Strategic Framework, in mind.
We are looking for a professional who can help design contemporary/progressive curriculum centered on fostering curiosity in a student-centered environment. QMS is looking to increase its inquiry-based, student-centered, interdisciplinary learning experiences and provide opportunities for students to develop their understanding of the world around them through authentic and relevant learning opportunities. Candidates will possess a strong understanding of the developmental, wellness and social-emotional needs of adolescents in this age-range. Successful candidates will be inclusive educators who have a strong desire to create a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
Candidates must possess or be eligible for Teacher certification through the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch.

Responsibilities:
Design, plan and teach engaging and relevant Mathematics/Science and STEAM integrated learning, as assigned, following the British Columbia curriculum
Work collaboratively to develop the development of an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary project-based learning approach to teaching and learning
Assess and address student learning styles and implement strategies for differentiated instruction
Possess a strong understanding of assessment for learning and competency-driven practices, Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment for all students that promotes mutual respect, fairness and a growth mindset
Possess an understanding of the role played by diversity, equity and inclusion in an educational environment
Foster caring and supportive relationships with parents and guardians
Integrate technology in curriculum in a way that is engaging, innovative and relevant
Design and implement a variety of authentic assessment for learning strategies and differentiated assessment methods
Provide regular and timely feedback to students and their families
Evaluate students and report on progress formally (report cards) and informally with families
Maintain ongoing records of student progress
Communicate effectively with homeroom teachers, faculty advisors, and learning support staff as required
Contribute to planning and delivery of special events
Lead co-curricular assignments with enthusiasm
Model the core values of the school
Collaborate with peers to support a student-centered learning environment
Be a role model for students
Take an active part in all professional development activities, including staff meetings
Qualifications:
The following are requirements for this position:
Graduate of a recognized B.Ed program, with focused studies in STEM in the Middle or Senior School grade range
Proof of BC Ministry of Education Teacher Certification
Knowledge of BC Curriculum requirements for Grade 8 and 9 Science and Mathematics education
Ability to lead a group of students in a school Advisory program
Strong organizational and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate and develop relationships with a wide array of stakeholders (students, parents, teacher colleagues, community members, etc.)
Commitment to continuous professional growth and professional learning
Ability and desire to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues
Proven ability to motivate students through meaningful curriculum and inquiry-driven learning
Demonstrated experience with innovative practices, including the integration of educational technology tools
Demonstrated ability to develop strong learning relationships through the provision of a safe and trusting learning environment
Ability to work effectively in a culturally responsive teaching environment
Understanding of British Columbia’s K-12 curriculum and the objectives of competency-based education
Demonstrated ability to effectively differentiate and be responsive to student needs
Willingness to regularly engage in experiential learning experiences
Willingness to embrace the ethos of an independent school and make a commitment to the extensive co-curricular life of an independent school
Preferences will be given to candidates who also have the following skills and qualifications:
Experience with digital animation, app design or media arts is an asset
Experience in a boarding school environment is an asset
Experience with Equestrian is an asset
Standard First Aid certification or above
Valid driver’s license and clean driver abstract
