About Island Pacific School

Island Pacific School (IPS) focuses exclusively on meeting the educational needs of adolescents in Grades 6 – 9. Our IB Middle Years Programme, outdoor challenges and community service experiences set students up for the rest of their lives. Housed in a purpose-built, student-friendly facility, IPS is located in the safe community of Bowen Island, BC and offers an enriched curriculum that includes philosophy, reasoning and ethics classes, monthly community service activities and multi-day outdoor expeditions.

With small classes of 15-18 and a total school population of 60-72, you’ll enjoy getting to know both your students and discovering how best to motivate and inspire them. Working with a close-knit team of IB teachers in a highly collaborative environment, you’ll have ample opportunity to expand your teaching practice beyond the school’s walls by taking advantage of nearby forest trails, professional community members and local organizations.

You hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and are prepared to contribute to the total culture of the school by participating in outdoor expeditions, serving as a homeroom teacher, coaching Ultimate, and becoming a Masterworks advisor. Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education Degree (or higher). Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications.

Although the commute from West Vancouver by ferry is only 20 minutes, this role is ideally suited to someone who lives on, or would be willing to relocate to, Bowen Island. Experience with IB MYP would be considered an asset but is not essential.

How to Apply

Applicants should apply now to [email protected] with a resume of no more than two pages and a cover letter that summarizes their experience and explains why they think they would be a good fit at the school. Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education Degree (or higher) and a valid BC Teacher Certificate. Salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications. If you are currently employed at another ISABC school, we reserve the right to contact them to provide a reference in accordance with our ISABC Guiding Principles. We expect to conduct interviews in April and May, with hiring completed in mid to late May. Need to be available to start late August 2023.

Special Note:

As a learning community Island Pacific School is actively committed to ensuring all individuals are valued, safe, have a sense of belonging, are treated equitably and have the opportunity to achieve their goals. We support a culture of belonging, where people are heard and are confident to contribute ideas, feedback, and perspectives to drive change. We work hard to foster and embrace a culture of belonging, understanding individual needs and appreciating differences, then distributing resources and supports based on those needs. We celebrate diversity as represented in the unique dimensions, qualities, experiences, and characteristics we individually possess. We strive towards inclusivity by creating a safe culture and environment by embracing, accepting, and respecting diversity, all the while striving for equity.

IPS hires on the basis of merit and is strongly committed to equity and diversity within its community. We especially welcome applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities.
