About Glenlyon Norfolk School
Glenlyon Norfolk School (GNS) is a co-educational independent school in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. For more than a century, GNS has offered students from throughout Victoria and around the world a unique approach to education that promotes critical thinking, inquiry-based learning and development of intellect and empathy. With 150 dedicated faculty and staff and a broad program of academics, athletics, fine arts and service, GNS’s three International Baccalaureate Programmes (Primary Years, Middle Years, and the Diploma Programme) are distinct but fully integrated, with each of the Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools led by its own Principal.
At GNS, our 700 students are given the opportunity to differentiate themselves in many ways. Every student is recognized and supported as a unique individual. Each is responsible for their own actions and is challenged to continually embrace the core values of the School, which are designed to allow students to be the best they can be in every area of the school, and in life. These values include truth, courage, caring, individuality and community.
GNS is located on two campuses set approximately one kilometre apart in quiet, established, and desirable neighbourhoods. The Middle School is part of the Pemberton Woods campus, nestled in an established residential Victoria neighbourhood. In recent years Pemberton Woods has benefited from several capital enhancements, including an all-weather turf field, Denford Hall (a state-of-the-art theatre), a new fitness centre, and extensive upgrades to the gymnasium, music and choir centre, learning commons, and dining facilities. An extensive capital building project is also being developed that, once realized, will completely reimagine the campus in the years to come.
Like every school, the COVID-19 pandemic has created challenges for both students and teachers that could never have been imagined before the pandemic began. However, the School has been proactive in its response, working closely with the provincial Ministries of Health and Education to create and implement a comprehensive plan that has allowed for operations to resume at full capacity in September 2020. We are well-positioned to adapt to changes as the pandemic continues to evolve and are confident in our ability to continue addressing future challenges as they arise.
Glenlyon Norfolk School is seeking an accomplished, inspiring Middle School Principal who will work to build upon GNS’ reputation at the forefront of twenty-first century education. The Principal will lead a committed, accomplished team of educators and support their delivery of GNS’ uniquely designed IB Middle Years Programme, helping to ensure that each of the Middle School’s 190 students and their families feel supported as they navigate the program’s challenges and learning opportunities.
