Discourse Debate Camp

The Camp
Discourse is a summer debate camp that will be held in Vancouver from July 20-24 for students in Gr. 9-12 at Collingwood School. This will the first time the camp is run in Vancouver after five successful years in Toronto. Discourse is taught by Shakir Rahim, a two-time World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Champion and five-time BC Debate Champion who coaches at several leading school programs in Toronto. The camp focuses on three foundational components in debate: argumentation, content, and delivery. The curriculum will include seminars, individual and group exercises, and practice debates in multiple styles to develop and strengthen skills. The Coach
Shakir is a debate coach for several leading school programs in Toronto such as the University of Toronto Schools, St. Andrew’s College, Trafalgar Castle School, and for students across Canada. His first coaching position was at Branksome Hall. Shakir has coached students from every level of experience for tournaments from the local to global level and his students include several international and national champions. He is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his achievements in community service and public speaking and debate, and is an incoming JD student at Osgoode Hall Law School.
