We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are looking for an inspirational and experienced school leader for the permanent full-time position of  Literacy Coordinator for our Junior School (PreK-6)  to start in August 2018.   
The Junior School Literacy coordinator plays an important leadership role in the school community. It is a key role that supports and enhances literacy education of students in Grades PK to G6. The role includes pedagogical support as well as working with teachers to develop and maintain a balanced literacy programme. The Literacy coordinator will work with the Vice Principals and the learning resource team to ensure consistency and alignment with the school’s strategic plan.  While the coordinator will be focused on the quality of literacy learning in the IB PYP, a key part of the role will be to collaborate with the MYP and DP literacy coordinators to ensure vertical and horizontal continuity and progression. Although this is a non-class based role, the Literacy coordinator will spend time planning, coaching, and co-teaching to ensure that student literacy needs are effectively met.
Ideally candidates will have the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education
  • All of the requirements and certifications to teach in BC
  • Hold an age appropriate First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate programmes, preferably with 5+ years experience teaching in the Primary Years Programme
  • A passion for literacy and a deep understanding of literacy pedagogies
  • Knowledge of remediation and enrichment in literacy
  • Ability to make literacy accessible to a range of abilities and learning styles
  • Experience teaching in a technology rich environment
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Collegiality, flexibility and the ability to coach others effectively
